Garbanzo meat 

Hello friends today I want to share my Garbanzo meat recipe with you. Its very tasty, easy to prepare and you can serve with pasta, potatoes or rice and is made from Garbanzo beans and mushrooms. For the Garbanzo beans or chickpeas I used dry chickpeas and soften them in the Instant pot, but do not worry you can use the chickpeas from the cans if you do not have time to soften them. This is an alternative for people that do not like to eat soy constantly.

To soften the Garbanzo beans soaked them in water overnight, it will accelerate the cooking time.

To soften the Garbanzo beans:

Pre heat your Intant pot in the pressure cook mode. Set your IP for 50 minutes in high. Add two cups of Garbanzo beans and 5 cups of water and cover with the lid until you hear the beep indicating that it is cooked.

How to prepare the Garbanzo meat


All the Garbanzo beans that you already soften

1 onion

5 cloves of garlic

1 cup of mini Portobello mushrooms (cut them in little pieces)

1/2 teaspoon cumin powder

1 teaspoon of oregano

1 teaspoon of vegan vegetable bullion

1 teaspoon of molasses

16 ounces organic tomato paste

1 cup of water

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon of turmeric

Mineral Salt and pepper to taste

1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes


1.The first step was to soften the Garbanzo beans, with a potato masher mashed them, but not too much. Leave a little bit of texture.

2. Add the mushrooms to the Garbanzo beans and set aside.

3. In a saucepan add a little bit of water and the onions and garlic, we are are going to saute this without oil. If the water evaporates add more until fragant. Is going to take 3 or 5 minutes.

4. Add the tomato paste and the cup of water mix and immediately add the Garbanzo, mushrooms and stir the rest of the ingredients. This is a good time to adjust all the flavors and if you need more garlic, add garlic powder, which is what I did. Also feel free to add more amount of spices, salt water or pepper. Give a good stir and cook in medium low for 15 minutes.

Tips to serve:

Fill an empanada with Garbanzo meat, with spaghetti, over rice, in a Lasagna.
